The new Metra Train Station in the Village of Palatine required extensive programming work that included included land use planning, traffic studies to determine the final location of the station, and establishment of major goals and objectives to address all the necessary facets of a new train station. The planning process included a site design and station design and consideration of the station location within the larger downtown context and on-site.
Vehicular and pedestrian circulation issues were major considerations during the planning process.
The final proposal consisted of a relocation of the station building to a new 4,500 square-foot facility, extended platforms, additional platform amenities, a new concourse, a street reconfiguration, a parking area, and a landscaped pedestrian greenway.
